\”Nekromantik\” Review

Nekromantik: Directed by Jörg Buttgereit. With Bernd Daktari Lorenz, Beatrice Manowski, Harald Lundt, Collosseo. A street sweeper who cleans up after grisly accidents brings home a full corpse for him and his wife to enjoy sexually, but is dismayed to see that his wife prefers the corpse over him.

Near the top of movies that \”could never be made today\”, this is a 1987 movie about a guy that loses his girlfriend to a corpse, then kills himself while masturbating with his own blood. It\’s about as fucked up as you could imagine, but I could firmly see it being remade with modern sensibilities without much editing, especially if it\’s redone by anyone not in Hollywood. The 1987 version of the film is an amaturish, low budget exploitation film that\’s there to shock you more than terrify you, with copous amounts of blood and gristle, with jars of human body parts in a closet and the butchering of a live rabbit. The rabbit scene actually looks like it\’s from a documentary about life on a far, so while it\’s shocking to see an animal bled out and skinned, the actual visuals are more clinical than horrifying.

It\’s only moderately horror, mostly just goopy gross shock, not worth your time at all.
