\”Twister\” Review

Directed by Jan de Bont. With Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Cary Elwes, Jami Gertz. Bill and Jo Harding, advanced storm chasers on the brink of divorce, must join together to create an advanced weather alert system by putting themselves in the cross-hairs of extremely violent tornadoes.

It was a Helen Hunt kind of night, so we moved on to \’Twister\’ after watching \’As Good As It Gets\’, this is the better of the two movies, if only because there\’s no bigoted slurs in \’Twister\’. That being said, man I remember this being better then it really is, so many over the top movie tropes with acting that\’s both unbelievable and surprising when it comes from the major players here. Bill Paxton especially seemed like he was shocked he was in the movie the entire time and I don\’t think I\’ve ever seen Philip Seymour Hoffman play a fratboy scientist before or after this film. The CGI and special effects are on par for what was being released at the time, so I\’m not going to ding them on that too much, but what really took me by surprise was how poorly done the ADR was, with entire scenes being obviously relooped with added sound effects.

I\’d still suggest this, even if the science is a littly on the wanky side, it\’s a movie with heart and a fun soundtrack.
